Textbooks

Here you will find a list of the textbooks that I use and that I can vouch for. There are probably a lot more that exist out there but I can only recommend what I have used to date. I have not included any links as, depending on what countries we are all in, we will have different online shopping platforms/bookstores!

Beginners

  • Basic Tagalog by Paraluman S. Aspillera (Tuttle Publishing) - in my opinion this is an essential book for beginners

  • I'd Like To Speak Filipino 1 and 2 (Gusto Kong Mag-Filipino) by Victoria P. Carlos - This book series is so easily digestible but might be difficult to find where you are

Pre-Intermediate

  • Elementary Tagalog by Jiedson R. Domipge & Nenita P. Domingo (Tuttle Publishing)

  • Elementary Tagalog - Workbook by Jiedson R. Domigpe & Nenita P. Domingo (Tuttle Publishing) - I LOVE this workbook. It's not too overwhelming so is a good way to test knowledge

Intermediate PLUS

  • Intermediate Tagalog by Joi Barrios (Tuttle Publishing) - Honestly I think this book is kind of pitched a little higher than Intermediate - there are a lot of really complex texts and grammar points in here so I would suggest approaching this at a point where you feel comforable with the pre-intermediate text

  • I'd Like to Speak Filipino 3 and 4 (Gusto Kong Mag-Filipino) by Victoria P. Carlos - Again, I love these books but you might find them difficult to come across

Music

Below you will find a Spotify playlist to listen to my collated list of Tagalog language music, as well as an external website which faciliatates learning through song lyrics
